Canonical forms for free κ-semigroups

چکیده

The implicit signature κ consists of the multiplication and the (ω − 1)-power. We describe a procedure to transform each κ-term over a finite alphabet A into a certain canonical form and show that different canonical forms have different interpretations over some finite semigroup. The procedure of construction of the canonical forms, which is inspired in McCammond’s normal form algorithm for ω-terms interpreted over the pseudovariety A of all finite aperiodic semigroups, consists in applying elementary changes determined by an elementary set Σ of pseudoidentities. As an application, we deduce that the variety of κ-semigroups generated by the pseudovariety S of all finite semigroups is defined by the set Σ and that the free κ-semigroup generated by the alphabet A in that variety has decidable word problem. Furthermore, we show that each ω-term has a unique ω-term in canonical form with the same value over A. In particular, the canonical forms provide new, simpler, representatives for ω-terms interpreted over that pseudovariety.

Normal Forms for Free Aperiodic Semigroups

The implicit operation ω is the unary operation which sends each element of a finite semigroup to the unique idempotent contained in the subsemigroup it generates. Using ω there is a well-defined algebra which is known as the free aperiodic semigroup. In this article we show that for each n, the ngenerated free aperiodic semigroup is defined by a finite list of pseudoidentities and has a decida...

Tameness of pseudovariety joins

The concept of tameness of a pseudovariety was introduced by Almeida and Steinberg [1] as a tool for proving decidability of the membership problem for semidirect products of pseudovarieties. Recall that the join V ∨ W of two pseudovarieties V and W is the least pseudovariety containing both V and W. This talk is concerned with the problem of proving tameness of joins. This problem was consider...

A pr 2 00 4 Convergence at the origin of integrated semigroups

We study a classification of the κ-times integrated semigroups (for κ > 0) by the (uniform) rate of convergence at the origin: ‖S(t)‖ = O(tα), 0 ≤ α ≤ κ. By an improved generation theorem we characterize this behaviour by Hille-Yosida type estimates. Then we consider integrated semigroups with holomorphic extension and characterize the convergence at the origin, as well as the existence of boun...

Canonical partition function for anomalous systems described by the κ - entropy Antonio

Starting from the κ-distribution function, obtained by applying the maximal entropy principle to the κ-entropy [G. Kaniadakis, Phys. Rev. E 66 (2002), 056125], we derive the expression of the canonical κ-partition function and discuss its main properties. It is shown that all important macroscopical quantities of the system can be expressed employing only the κ-partition function. The relations...

FREE SEMIGROUPS AND IDEMPOTENTS IN T

The known theory for an oid T shows how to find a subset T of ?T, which is a compact right topological semigroup [I]. The success of the methods in [2] for obtaining properties of-T has prompted us to see how successful they would be in another context. Thus we find (Theorem 4.8) that T cont ains copies of free semigroups on 2? generators, is an immediate consequence of the stronger resu...
